Weight management helped by playing tennis
Take exercise
The government and the media recently have been emphasising the need to get
out and take exercise such as walking, cycling, golf and tennis. All have their
benefits helping helping with weight management perhaps some more than others.
Take tennis for example, it has many advantages. First it is relatively
inexpensive to start. No need to buy expensive kit other than a racket which
some clubs have free on loan. There is likely to be a public or private court
not too far away from you, so no need to travel far. But, possibly more
important to you is the many health benefits.
Burn up to 700+ calories an hour
Today, we should all be interested in weight management and tennis certainly helps.
Moving about the court, swinging, stretching and hitting the ball gives your
whole body a full, enjoyable and sociable work out which will burn a lot of
calories in a relatively short time. This could equate to 500 to 700+ calories
per hour for singles dependent on how much you move around. This is a lot more
than many other sports. If you are one of the many that now wears a sports
watch such as Polar, Fitbit or Apple you can see for yourself just how good
tennis is for you. Proved by recent research published in the journal Mayo
Clinic Proceedings which tracked 8,600 adults over roughly a quarter century.
This showed tennis players had the biggest gain in life expectancy over
sedentary individuals, adding 9.7 years to their lives.
Mental health
Additionally, tennis is a much more social sport shown by recent research
published by Sports Marketing Surveys Inc 2020. This concludes that UK tennis
players are more likely to be happier with their lives in general than
non-players.
So, get out on a tennis court and benefit from the many health benefits offered,
helping to build the body beautiful not only physically but mentally and helping with weight management too.
